Our Product is saturated in a heavy latex coating that includes a flame retardant, a germicide and a UV stabilizer. It is then squeezed to remove the excess coating then baked until the coating fuses with the fibers of the foam.
Other foam filters, of which are of two varieties; the top coated only product, available in Big Discount stores and the other product with has an envelope of coating around the outer surface. The first “top coated” type leaves about 90% of the foam unprotected (foam will become brittle and disintegrate if left uncoated in an outdoor environment for a long period). The sprayed on coating will also actively rub off in your hands as you install it, which does not argue well for long term protection.
